The next blog thing: Video blogs

So you like moblogs? They’re so 15 minutes ago. There’s already at least one video blog online, so we can expect another hundred or so any time.

The video blog, the Production Diary at Kong is King, provides movie fans with fairly regular updates (sometimes daily, sometimes every couple days) on filming of the new version of “King Kong.” The notes feature a shot from a brief “making-of” video and some notes. Click on the image and you watch the streaming video—which is pretty entertaining and will certainly generate buzz about the movie. (The film, in case you weren’t aware of it, is being shot in New Zealand by Peter Jackson, his first effort since wrapping up “The Lord of the Rings.”)

Much of the rest of the “Kong is King” site is also handled by blogging software, including the news page.

A fan, reacting to the videoblog, has started his own. It’s just a personal diary, but the mind boggles at the PR potential for videoblogs.
