Why isn’t P.W. Fenton rich and famous?

Shel HoltzApropos of absolutely nothing, I found myself wondering yesterday, while listening to Digital Flotsam, why P.W. Fenton isn’t rich and famous. If you’ve never listened to Digital Flotsam, it represents—to me, at least—the epitome of podcasting’s potential. With a great voice, Fenton recounts tales from his past (youth in NYC, wannabe Broadway actor, Tampa cop) told with some of the most brilliant audio engineering you’ll ever hear. PeeDub, as he’s known in PodShow circles (he’s a full-time employee of the Adam Curry-Ron Bloom podcast startup), can make you laugh out loud and get choked up. NPR should be so lucky as to have segments as rich and entertaining and professionally produced as those Fenton sends us for free via podcasting channels. If you’re not listening, start. Really; I mean it. Right now. You won’t be sorry.

  • 1.AMEN!!! I'm lucky enough to call PW a friend and on top of being one of the most original and talented podcasters, he's a stand up individual of the highest degree.

    I wish there were more storytelling podcasts out there. I know someone called Digital Flotsam "a digital Wonder Years" and I've always loved that.

  • 3.Last year when PW put out his Christmas episode (episode 29), I got those same two emotions. I laughed and then I got all choked up. My wife and I were torn on a present for my son and whether or not Santa Claus should give it to him. I heard that episode and I immediately told my wife that we had to let Santa give him this present. We don't know how many more years we have left that the magic of Christmas and Santa Claus will be in my son's heart.

    His episodes are that moving.
