Queen Elizabeth podcasts Christmas message

British Queen Elizabeth’s Christmas message—traditionally broadcast via radio—called for a bridging of the generational gap. So it should come as no surprise that the Queen made the message available via podcast. A subscription feed was made available in advance of the message so it could be retrieved as soon as it was posted. The Monarchy Media Center even posted some details about what podcasting is.

Okay, so the 80-year-old monarch probably didn’t convert the message to MP3, upload it, or generate the feed herself. But then again, who cares? A lot of popular podcasts are produced by third parties, with the hosts themselves focused solely on content. And the Queeen’s content was pretty solid: “The wisdom and experience of the great religions point to the need to nurture and guide the young, and to encourage respect for the elderly,” she said. Indeed!

  • 1.Hi Shel,

I love radio and I'm the last to criticise it but podcasting isn't the Queen's first embrace of popular technology. Television, for instance, hasn't passed her by and her Christmas message has been televised since 1957 [Wikipedia].

As another blogger said, if the test of technology being accepted is that your grandma uses it, podcasting just passed this test for the whole Commonwealth :)
