Roger D’Aprix on the skeptical workforce

I spent Friday in Peoria at Caterpillar headquarters for a meeting of the ROI Executive Communications Forum. The Forum provides an opportunity for communication leaders from large organizations to “share views, problems, successes and failures in a confidential environment marked by mutual trust and informed by our experience as thought leaders in the profession.” Think Blog Council for general communications with a focus on employee communications. My one-man company is not a large organization, but when Roger D’Aprix put the Forum together a few years back for ROI Communications, he asked Cisco Systems’ Brad Whitworth and me to help, which makes me a de facto member.

Roger shared galley proofs of his new book, “The Credible Company: Communicating with a Skeptical Workforce,” which will be released by the same publisher and on the same date as my new book. I took advantage of the opportunity to grab a little less than three minutes of video in which Roger explains the book’s premise.

  • 1.Thanks Shel for the interview.
I look forward to the book and especially the data that Roger refers to.
    Aloha,

P.S. A trivia question: Would you be an ex officio member such as co-founder rather than a defacto member of the ROI Executive forum?

  • 2.Thanks, Dan. I'll stick with de facto. Ex officio means that you hold one office by virtue of holding another, while de facto means "existing but not legally established." The "legal" (or, in this case, official) requirement for Forum membership is leadership of a communications function at a very large company. That isn't me, but I hold a seat anyway, by virtue of having helped put the Forum together but not because of any office held.

Ah, but that I had taken Latin while in school...
