FIR goes live on June 1

Listeners to For Immediate Release: The Hobson and Holtz Report will be able to participate actively in the show as we record episode #142 on Thursday, June 1.

Since we record the show over Skype anyway, it was not a huge leap to record a Skypecast, a conference call-like service that allows dozens of people to participate. We’ll cover the normal content we usually review in a show, but you’ll be able to join in the discussion with us in real time. In addition, you’ll be able to chat with each other by visiting the chat room we set up just for this live, interactive show. The chat room will be at www.forimmediaterelease.biz/index.php/weblog/chat/. We’ll monitor the chat room during the show, taking questions posted there and commenting on the discussion, as well.

The entire show will be posted as a regular FIR episode.

The show kicks off at 4 p.m. GMT, 9 a.m. PDT (where Shel lives) and 6 p.m. Amsterdam time for Neville. To join the conversation, visit the Skypecasts page, find the Skypecast labeled “For Immediate Release,” and click “Sign in to join.” If course, you’ll need Skype, but it’s free from www.skype.com and requires only a microphone and headphones (or a headset that combines the two).

We’re both looking forward to your participation in this unique Hobson & Holtz installment!

  • 1.I have a dentist appointment but hope to make it. I claim to speak about Word as a blogging tool and have networking suggestion.
Oh Shel, I don't know if anybody ever considered it, but how about attaching .ics-files to these kind of posts, with which you can drag the appointment easily into your calendar-tool of choice?

  • 2.What a great idea, Sebastian! I've done it.

  • 3.If you're interested in getting your name and your thoughts in a new book on business blogging and podcasting, I know just the man you should talk to.  Ted Demopoulos is looking for about 30 to 40 smart folks to...

  • 4.Shel, I'm glad you're trying out the Skypecast experience and I hope you have a much better go of it than I did a couple of weeks ago. If you let more than two or three people talk at once, you're likely to find extreme slowdown and sound choppiness. Also, there wasn't any way that I saw for anyone besides the moderator (me) to see who was muted or unmuted, and also no way that I could figure out of allowing anyone to "raise their hand" - we just had to bootstrap everything as we went, using a Skype text chat that didn't automatically include everyone in the Skypecast.

    Best wishes!

  • 5.Thanks for the wishes, Easton. I spoke with Francois Gossieux, who conducted a series of Skypecasts that he recorded in association with his upcoming Corante marketing conference, and apparently it went well -- the recording sounded fine, so I'm hopeful.

  • 6.Hey, namesake. I was wondering if you had considered using the neew Waxxi technology and what the tradeoffs between that and Skypecast are in your opinion.
