Keep your bloggers in the loop

Robert Scoble points out that there’s more to a network of employee bloggers than policies governing what they can and cannot say.

Over the weekend, a storm erupted online over the impending release of a new Microsoft product code-named Origami (apparently a tablet-like device for multimedia use). The term “origami” made Technorati’s top five searches and top five “hot tags.” Microsoft’s marketing team, however, kept the army of employee bloggers in the dark.

“What???s the danger of not letting your internal bloggers know about your product release plans?” Scoble asked. “They might not be able to help keep your announcements in proper perspective…when you don???t tell us what???s up we can???t help you keep expectations under control. Now everyone expects Origami to be bigger than the Xbox. I???d much rather expectations were dialed down a bit.”
