Honeywell employees are blogging

Sometimes it’s difficult to convince management to embrace the idea of employee blogs when nearly all the examples you can offer come from high-tech companies. The kneejerk reaction of many executives (and not just to employee blogging initiatives) is, “We’re not a high-tech company.”

Thomas Nelson publishers has been the only solid example I’ve been able to offer of a more traditional business with an employee blogging network. Now I can also point to Honeywell, which so far has three bloggers on its network. The Honewell Career Blogs are touted as “a great way to gain a deeper level of understanding to the culture, people, work and environment of Honeywell.” So far, the employees blogging come from HR, marketing, and the company’s integrated supply chain. Focusing blogs on recruiting sounds like a great way to convince management of the value.

  • 1.Shel,

The last time I looked we weren't a high-tech company, and you've certainly mentioned our blogging network before.

The only other professional services company I know of that has a similar network is Accenture in the Netherlands.

  • 2.I certainly considered mentioning H&K, Niall; your network is terrific. I think, though, management at brick-and-mortar companies would have the same reaction they would to high-tech companies with blogging networks. "Well, that's a PR agency. We're a company, not an agency." It's nice to have big-iron companies like Honeywell to point to!

Accenture is a double whammy: A high-tech consulting firm! By the way, I introduced Accenture to blogging in a pair of sessions I conducted in London and Chicago a couple years ago.
