A free alternative to FeedForAll

I’ve been playing with RSS Builder, a nifty Windows app that uses a simple wizard model to let you create RSS feeds. It’s a great tool for those who want feeds associated with web pages but don’t use a content management system or blog utility that generates the feed automatically.

FedForAll has been the de facto application for this kind of feed creation, but RSS Builder offers most of the same functionality and has the added virtue of being free; FeedForAll will set you back $39.95 (although it does have a version for the Mac).

RSS Builder has some nice features. A red exclamation point appears whenever you do something wrong (like enter a name instead of an email address); hovering over the exclamation point reveals the problem. It also includes a built-in HTML editor for your entries and an FTP utility to send the finished feed to a server.

According to the app’s site, only six downloads have occurred so far (including mine), but I suspect that number will soar once the word gets out.
