Software introduced to strip ads from RSS feeds

That didn’t take long. Advertising through RSS is a brand-spanking-new idea, and already opponents are coming up with software that will strip the ads from your feeds. According to PaidContent.org, several more are in the works. The one that’s already available, RS3, does more than just strip out ad banners and other “junk.” It’s more of an effort to take the next step in making news readers more useful. For instance, it converts summaries to text and copies them to your digital audio player, much like a podcast, so you can listen to your feeds rather than read them.

RS3 isn’t ready for consumer use yet—it’s an open-source project that requires Linux and other apps most users don’t have. But it’s a sign of what’s to come.
