Ive just started playing with Findory, a site that creates a personalized “newspaper” containing news and blog posts of interest to you based on what you’ve read on previous visits to the site. FIndory touts itself as an alternative to an RSS news aggregator: “Anybody can promote a single news agency’s content, or build an overly-complicated RSS aggregator. That’s not the hard part. The hard part is is finding interesting and relevant content. We want to provide the best news reading experience based on innovative personalization technology.”

Findory uses a patent-pending technology to cull material based on your interests. The site also, interestingly, makes an API available so those who want to can create mashups and filters of Findory content. You tap into the API by setting up customized RSS feeds. “How about combining Amazon.com top selling products with recent news about each product? Popular products like Harry Potter or the new Coldplay album generate lots of buzz in news and blogs. Or, you could extract del.icio.us tags and feed them in to Findory personalized keyword queries to generate a mashup of recent news and tagged urls.”

So far, I like what I see. I doubt it will replace my news reader, where I can be sure to see the blogs and other resources that are important to me. But it could become an important supplement, directing me to content I might not otherwise find.
