CBS Evening News to blog about itself
In the wake of CBS News’ announcement that it is banking on the web in its “cable bypass” (in the words of CBS Internet honcho Larry Kramer)—a massive expansion of its online news coverage—the network has revealed that it will also launch a blog that will turn a critical eye on its own flagship newscast, The CBS Evening News.
The New York Times reports that the blog will be authored by Vaughn Ververs, who has been editing The Hotline, a political website. To be dubbed Public Eye, the blog “will assemble questions from viewers and criticism from various sources, and immediately bring in reactions from the CBS newsroom,” according to the Times story.
This is one I’ll be watching. If CBS News is able to be genuinely responsive to criticism through a blog, it could signal a new trend in news. The fact that they’ve hired an outsider to manage the blog is a promising start.
Thanks to Dee Rambeau for the heads-up.
