Happy PR pros

I’ve worked with a lot of communicators over the years, and in that time one characteristic seems to bind all of them: enthusiasm. People who work in communications, it has always seemed to me, genereally have a certain amount of passion for their work. Now there’s research to support the notion that PR people like what they do. According to a study by communications-focused executive recruiter Charet & Associates, more than 70% of PR professionals rate themselves somewhere between somewhat and extremely satisfied with their jobs. (The Charet website makes no reference to the study, but according to a story in New Jersey Business:

More than 60% of the public relations professionals were satisfied with their access to upper-level managers, while about 52% said they were satisfied with their job responsibilities.

The bad news from the survey of 117 PR professionals: Only about 37% believe there is opportunity for advancement in their current jobs.
