  • 1.Regarding the Edison report on Podcast usage: I see this as a positive, having quoted similar statistics in our podcast last week. There, I compared an upward trend (though not yet a hockey stick) to the more lackluster numbers around RSS.

The next paragraph has a blatant plug for a client, but bear with me, it's relevant.

Podcasting as a concept is easier to grasp than RSS, and the only real barrier is making them easier to listen to. All the Joe and Josephine Six-packs out there need easy-to-use podcatchers in front of their faces. Veteran listeners might recall that I have a client, Podcast Ready, that is doing just that-- getting the podcatcher on devices so they can't avoid being exposed to podcasts. Podcast Ready is reporting a 91% software activation rate and a 40% subscriber rate from their factory-loaded podcatcher, myPodder. With 10 million Podcast Ready devices (from iRiver and Cowon, among other brands) shipping this year, we will exceed my pain threshold for on-the-fly math. But that's where the growth is, and no one has to sit any of these people down to explain what RSS means.
