“Long Tail” recommends character blogs

The Long Tail blog offers up a series of long-tail strategies for the critically acclaimed but low-rated TV series “Arrested Development.” It’s an interesting approach to bypassing TV for the delivery of TV content. One of the strategies, though, should raise the eybrows of several contributors to the PR blogosphere: “Have the cast blog - in character. Have them do video blogs and even live webcasts in character, too.”

The immediate reaction might be, “Oh, God, not another lame character blog!” But the idea here is to have the actual actors blog in character. In the context of the rest of the plan (which you’ll have to read), does this make sense? Seems to me it could be an effective application of the concept.

  • 1.BlogPulse has asked me to dust off my Super Bowl Ad Blog and be a lab rat panelist, for their second annual Super Bowl Blog Panel. Panelists will blog a play by play of all the ads on their individual, password-protected blogs (sorry!). And there will be plenty of ads

  • 2.Not everyone is against character blogging. I thought I had a pretty convincing argument with Sprout and the Jolly Green Giant.

The irony is those that complain the loudest tend to be caricatures of themselves, in a way character blogs.
