Download podcasts straight to your Pocket PC

You would think the maker of some MP3 device—Creative Labs, iRiver, or somebody like that—would jump on the podcasting bandwagon and develop a device that lets you download a podcast directly to your device without having to first save it to your computer. Instead, it’s software for the Pocket PC—Microsoft’s PDA operating system—that is first to offer feature highly desired among podcast fans. According to a press release, “FeederReader is a full-featured RSS Aggregator with podcast listening (“podcasting” or “podcatching”) and enclosure support, running on Windows Mobile. It is designed for downloading and reading RSS feeds on a Pocket PC run without the assistance of a host computer.” Users update the feeds when the Pocket PC is connected to the internet and listen to them while offline.

Similar software for the Palm OS can’t be far behind. And integration of the software into smart phones (like my Treo 650) is inevitable.
