FIR Podcast #93: Transformers (of the digital kind)

For Immediate Release

Cross-posted from the FIR Podcast Network

Chris Boyer and Meredith Gould, both Platinum Fellows of the Mayo Clinic Social Media Network, joined host Shel Holtz to talk about these topics:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) is poised to have a massive effect on health care. Some impressive results are already being recorded. That means AI will also affect the way health care communicators do their jobs and what they communicate.
  • Last week, the Supreme Court found that access to social media is a First Amendment right, identifying it as a “place” where people access and share information. Will those corporate leaders who think it’s all teenagers and cat videos finally take it seriously?
  • “Digital transformation” is usually an IT initiative involving the development of a bunch of tools. For the organization to actually transform, though, the culture has to change, which makes digital transformation a change initiative.
  • The communications team at the White House is making the public’s perception of public relations even worse than it already was (and we have the data to prove it).
  • Snapchat’s shares have fallen to their IPO price, its user growth has slowed considerably, and daily visits to its Stories feature has fallen (while Instagram has grown), but companies keep using it and pumping money into it. Should they?
  • Tech correspondent Dan York reports on the messaging wars.
