About 50 minutes ago, the local CBS radio affiliate reported in its business update that the flight attendant’s union was the latest to call for a change of management at United Airlines. The lost confidence arises from the company’s decision to forego payments into the company’s pension fund and increasing calls for wage cuts.

A statement from the leader of the Association of Flight Attendants, Greg Davidowitch, said, ““United Airlines senior management has attacked our wages, benefits and work rules; they’ve attacked our retirees; and now they’ve attacked our pensions. Yet, they have failed to accomplish what employees have been working to achieve—a successful exit from bankruptcy.”

Within hours of the union’s decision, Dow Jones Newswire reported that United’s execs were warning employees of deeper job cuts to come.

With all this turmoil, you’d think United would want to state its case. Yet the company’s Web site has nothing to say about its bankruptcy or its labor woes. You wouldn’t expect the travel part of the site—the one aimed at consumers—to comment on threats and counter-threats. But there’s nothing in the corporate media center or in the investor relations section.

When will companies learn that, when the media reports bad news, their Web sites have become the first place people look for the company’s reaction?
