My longest business trip ever is approaching fast

I’m spending pretty much all of October on the road thanks to four speaking engagements in four cities in four weeks. This trip will officially be the longest I’ve ever been on the road.

(It would also be the longest I’ve ever been away from my wife. The record is two weeks, a trip I took to Indonesia 34 years ago. Since I have no interest in breaking that record…ever…Michele’s coming with me.)

The trip begins in New York, where I’m speaking at the Intranet Global Forum on October 7 and 8. My pre-conference session on the 7th zeroes in on the internal communications role in a social business, where every employee uses social and digital channels to do their jobs and add value. On the 8th, I’ll talk about intranets and employee communications.

From there, we cross the pond and land in Warsaw, Poland, which represents the only stop on this trip to a new city and country for us. I’ll be one of two keynote speakers on October 15 at the FACE 2014 conference, which is focused on the theme, “What happened to the organization’s personality?”> My talk is on connecting employees to each other and the company’s culture.

Then it’s on to Copenhagen, where I’m leading two one-day workshops for IntraTeam, the amazing Danish organization dedicated to great intranets. On October 20, I’ll teach Social Marketing Communication, with a focus on pushing more of your resources into the bottom of the funnel, where ambassadors create third-party endorsements that actually influence customers. This session will be held at the headquarters of Novo Nordisk. (Interestingly, the last time I was there was on September 11, 2001.)

The second day, I’ll be at DuPont Nutrition & Health teaching participants how to Create Engagement Through Internal Communications.

We’ll spend most of our time—eight days—in London, where I’m presenting two of the five sessions that make up the International School of Communications’ Strategic Digital Engagement Seminar. The week kicks off on Monday, October 27 with Dr. Paul Marsden speaking on the use of social psychology to optimize social media communication. I’m on Tuesday and Wednesday, addressing the practical, real-world application of social and digital media. On Thursday, social media consultant Richard Stacy looks at the rise of communities and why they may become the new media. (Richard has some very kind words about me on his blog post about the event.) Writer Janet Murray wraps up the week with a mastercolass on creating social content.

I’m impressed with the International School of Communications program, which runs £2,200 for the week if you register by Sept. 19, which you can do here.

Of course, I can’t go to London without spending some time with my podcast co-host, Neville Hobson, who is cooking something up by way of a gathering. We’re also looking forward to Halloween in London, which should be a trip and a half!

If you’re in any of these towns, though, let’s get together, have a drink, shoot a selfie, and enjoy some conversation.
