Five places you can catch me in May

I’m speaking at a few upcoming events that are open to the public. If you live in (or will be near) these places, I’d be honored if you came to see me and supported the sponsoring organizations.

IABC Detroit

Shel HoltzIn September, I’m conducting a workshop for IABC Detroit on how companies can ethically, transparently and profitably tap into their employees’ social networks (rather than block them). In advance of the September 22 workshop, I’m meeting up with Detroiters on May 5 (while I’ll be in Detroit anyway for Ragan’s Corporate Communicators Conference). The chapter is calling it “Cinco with Shel.” It’s an informal gathering, no formal presentation, but I’m looking forward to some casual communication and tech talk the evening of May 5.

Ragan one-day conference: Breakthrough Strategies

imageI’m delivering two of the five sessions set for a one-day conference titled “Breakthrough Strategies and Practices for Internal Communicators.” Not that the other speakers are slouches. They include internal communications measurement wizard Angela Sinickas; Linda Kingman, who helped Dow launch internal executive blogs; and Linda Dulye on turning managers into communicators. My talks are on what’s working in terms of social media adoption in the enterprise and the use of video internally to engage employees and enliven the workplace.

The conference is set for May 12 in Chicago.

IABC Minnesota

Shel HoltzHot on the heels of the Ragan one-day conference is IABC Minnesota’s Spring conference, set for May 13 at the brand new Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins. I’ll present a full-day workshop on the strategic use of social media. I’m also delivering the keynote at that night’s annual awards gala.

The IABC Minnesota folks have even uploaded a YouTube video on the event (including some comments from me recorded at the IABC Gold Quill Blue Ribbon panel judging event):

Conference Board

Shel HoltzThe prestigious Conference Board is hosting a two-day conference in New York titled “Corporate Communications and Web 2.0.” This conference is riddled with great speakers like Jay Berkowitz, Jay Byrne, IABC President Julie Freeman, and Nielsen Executive VP Pete Blackshaw. I’m on a panel with Gagen MacDonald consultant Peter Debreceny (whom I met when he was running corporate communications for Allstate) and Evan Kraus, Senior Vice President & Director at APCO (whom I’m looking forward to meeting).

The conference is set for May 20-21.

Social Media Plus

imageThis is my first talk for this particular group, but they’ve put together a great program set for Philadelphia later in the month. The one-day conference features a speaker list that reads like a who’s who: Rohit Bhargava from Ogilvy 360, Connie Bensen, Shashi Bellamkonda (Network Solutions’ Social Media Swami), Comcast’s Frank Eliason (whom I’m looking forward to finally meeting), Jason Falls, Beth Harte and Valeria Maltoni, among a bunch of others. My talk is on “The State and Future of Social Media.” I’m also on a panel with Jason and Valeria on social media measurement.
